Healing Ways Counseling, PLC
ABOUT Jeanne Weakland
We have all been through transitions where our sense of wholeness and balance have been in need of healing. For over 25 years, it has been an honor to hold that space for clients as they process life's more challenging issues from abuse, trauma, shame and broken relationships to everyday life stress and self-esteem. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you re-discover your best self. I enjoy working with families, parents, couples and individuals with diverse issues. I offer flexible daytime, evening and weekend appointments and welcome the opportunity for our paths to cross!
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Simpson College and my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. In October 2013, I completed my Level 1 Training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which helps clients address traumatic or emotionally disturbing life experiences. In March 2014, I completed my Level 2 Training & am now working on my certification process. For 18 years I worked at the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center and am thrilled to have transitioned into private practice at Healing Ways Counseling, PLC in 2013.
I approach the therapeutic relationship with an eclectic, client-centered, holistic style. I meet people where they are at and believe that we are innately meant to seek out growth and change when we are ready to look at our stories & mistaken beliefs. I believe it is essential to work on my own healing in order to help clients facilitate theirs. I have a special interest in the treatment and healing of life’s traumas as well as in attachment parenting. Treatment orientations that provide the framework for therapy are Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Family Systems Theory. These approaches help clients integrate their mind, body & spirit so they can feel their true selves again!
When I'm away from the office I get to be mama to four lovely children, hang out with my husband (aka our supportive business manager), enjoy my awesome friends, my crazy golden retriever, four sweet kitty cats, nature and running, as well as indulge in my yarn addiction.
