ABOUT Liz Jeffries - Practicum Student

LizJeffriesHeadShot.jpg

Experience:

I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and have 6 years experience as an upper elementary teacher. I have also taught for 4 years at Tuneful Journey, helping children and families develop connection through music. I am currently earning my master's degree in clinical mental health from Drake University. As a practicing counselor, I am actively expanding my knowledge of therapeutic approaches and interventions to better tailor support to each client’s unique needs.

Specialties:

Children, Teens, Young Adolescents, Family, LGBTQIA+

Approach:

Throughout my career in education, I have always had an interest in my students’ social emotional development. Utilizing the principles of conscious discipline, I place a large focus on understanding how brain states dictate behavior and how to shift our thinking from survival to problem solving. My role as your therapist is to provide a safe place where you will be heard and validated. Together, we will learn new strategies that align with the goals you want to achieve.  Not only do I hope to help children in my practice, but also coach parents and families with the tools they need to help reconnect, strengthen relationships, and practice self-regulation techniques together.

As a practicum student, I am still developing my identity as a therapist and discovering what works best with my clients. I utilize person-centered and ACT approaches.  I am interested in using trauma informed theories, play therapy and art therapy techniques in my practice.
